WGCD SCHOLARSHIP application form 2019-20

WGCD Scholarship Program – Supporting Area Youth

The West Greeley Conservation District selected 10 students who live within the boundaries of the conservation district’s service area to benefit from our scholarship program during the 2018-19 academic year. Four recipients are 2018 high school graduates, four more are renewals-who received awards as freshmen previously and two are upper class women. All 10 received $5,000.

With the District and Board’s commitment to education, WGCD increased the Scholarship program from $2,000 in 2017-18 to $5,000/student for this year.

WGCD invites these award winners to volunteer and participate with conservation and educational activities sponsored by the District. They are great mentors for community youth.

Those whose schedules allow helped with summer youth programs and at the WGCD Community BBQ on August 10. They are also invited to be greeters at our Annual Meeting on Thursday, November 8th at Island Grove. We hope you will attend the Award Dinner & Meeting and congratulate these future leaders.

All Scholarship recipients are attending a Colorado institution of higher learning, pursuing careers in: Natural Resources, Environmental Studies, Agriculture, Animal Science, Agribusiness, Water, Forestry, and related conservation fields. They have earned and maintained a 3.0 GPA or better and have been very involved in their schools and community. Please see the attached pdf for their photos, schools and field of study they are pursuing along with their THANK YOU to YOU for making their scholarship awards possible.

In addition, WGCD had selected Tiana Rose Smith last year to receive a $2,000 scholarship. However, Tiana had to put college on hold for one year while she fulfilled her duties serving as the State President of Future Farmers of America. She traveled throughout the state and nation working with youth in the FFA program. Tiana has already earned credits from Aims/CSU.

If you know a deserving student in the District who is seeking further education at a Colorado college or university studying agriculture/science/conservation or a related field, please encourage them to visit our web site at: http://www.wgcd.org/conservation-education/college-scholarships/  for a complete list of criteria and an application form. If you have questions please contact Kristi Helzer, Community Outreach & Education Coordinator at kristi.helzer@wgcd.org or call 970.534.2320.
